As soon as the first signs of winter appear, we start modifying our wardrobes. Out with the short and thin fabrics, in with the sweaters and heavy blankets! But winter doesn’t just make us feel cold on the outside, it also messes with our immunity. And kids, being more vulnerable to seasonal changes, need more care during winter, especially regarding nutrition. Luckily for us, Indian kitchens already have immunity boosting super foods! And today, we’re going to use our pantry staples to give your toddler an immunity boost in a kid-friendly way with these Jaggery Ginger Turmeric Balls – an easy, no-cook recipe!
Ingredients :
- 1/3 cup jaggery powder / grated jaggery
- 2 tablespoon dry ginger powder
- 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
- 3-4 tablespoon ghee (I prefer homemade ghee)
Method:
1. Mix the ingredients except ghee in a bowl.
2. Add melted ghee slowly to the dry mix.
3. Mix everything with your fingers to make a dough that’s wet enough to bind together.
4. Pinch out a bit of dough and roll to make a small ball – about the size of a marble.
5. Make more balls of the same size till all the dough is used up.
6. Store the balls in an air tight container. The balls remain good at room temperature for 10 days.
These balls can be given to kids above 18 months – one ball a day. One tip is to use soft jaggery for proper shape and ease in making the balls. Jaggery gives the balls a natural sweetness, while both ginger and turmeric are antibiotic and anti-inflammatory.
With such benefits, these jaggery ginger turmeric balls act as a preventive pills to boost immunity and are also effective as a home remedy for cough and cold along with seasonal allergies. And because they’re no-cook, it’s super easy for Moms too!
