Located in the famous city of Beverly Hills, in Los Angeles, California, USA, a meeting point for famous stars, is this wonderful house covering a sprawling 3,000 square feet. It was designed by the architectural firm Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects with the aid of its team comprised by Takashi Yanai and Megan Lawler in 2016.
This modest residence, marked by simplicity and light, has been designed with a family consisting of a young couple and their newborn child in mind. Respectful of a neighborhood composed mainly of Spanish-style houses from the 1940s, the scale and mass remained comparable to the surrounding buildings.
Materials traditionally used in Spanish homes were incorporated, all with a modern touch; a simple composition of stucco, concrete, and wood produced a contemporary and warm respite in this urban environment. The house incorporates a pool, strategic landscaping, and a private entrance sequence to maximize outdoor space on the 6,000-square-foot lot.
In the main living room, the floor-to-ceiling glass doors define the room. The living room and dining room open to the backyard and a pond, increasing the feeling of outdoor space, creating the illusion of a much larger house and making the most of the California climate. Upstairs, the master suite, with its bathrooms and closets, has a balcony overlooking the backyard.
