We were warned from childhood about the dangers of smoking and alcohol, but sugar can also be added to this list. Because the use of sugar in large quantities is nothing but an addiction. And, as a rule, this very addiction begins with intense attraction and enters into our regular habits.
What happens if you give up sugar
The heart will become healthier. If there is a lot of sugar in the diet, then your heart will definitely not thank you. Because the consumption of a large amount of sugar triggers inflammatory processes in the body that can cause heart disease.
On the one hand, it may seem that sugar helps to cheer up, but it turns out quite the opposite. According to a study that was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Women who ate high sugar foods were more likely to be depressed than those who did not. And all because sugar can lead to chronic inflammation in the body, which affects the functioning of the brain. Sudden changes in blood sugar lead to the same mood swings.
Physical fitness will improve the body condition. According to research by the Harvard School of Public Health, we consume about 22 teaspoons of added sugar daily. It can be found not only in cakes or sweets, but sugar is also found in less obvious foods, such as sauces, marinades or semi-finished meat products. If you carefully review your daily diet, you can easily get rid of 300-400 extra calories.
More energy will appear. Added sugar is simple carbohydrates. So they are quickly absorbed, providing the body with the necessary burst of energy. But this effect does not last long and after a while you will want to repeat it. “When you eat foods high in protein and healthy fats, like a handful of almonds, they will provide you with a more steady stream of energy that lasts longer,” says Diana Sanfilippo, nutrition consultant.
The skin will retain youth. A large amount of sugar in the diet can lead to a decrease in elasticity and premature wrinkles. Fortunately, scientific studies show that lower amounts of sugar can prevent premature skin aging.
How to limit sugar
Avoid artificial sweeteners. When you decide to give up sugar, your brain will crave something sweet, and the use of artificial sweeteners can only strengthen your desire.
Read labels on food. The best way to protect yourself from unnecessary amounts of sugar is to carefully read labels and lists of ingredients.
Cook at home. When you cook your own food, you can choose the ingredients yourself.
Put things in order in the kitchen. If you are determined to start your life without sugar, remove the sources of sugar in your home. This is one of the main rules, because in this way you will not have an extra reason to break.
Of course, you need to understand that it is impossible to completely abandon sugar – it is a substance that is found in many useful products necessary for the body. However, sugar should remain in your diet in moderation and in proper shape.
